Canopy Manage in Defence

An IoT assisted asset discovery and management solution designed by ex-military personnel with real world international and uniformed  operational deployment experience
Defence Requirements
Unique needs
Defence asset management requirements are challenging as it covers both training/home base as well as deployed forces - often located in communications and environmentally constrained locations. Our secure IoT asset health system is a proven and cost effective product for the ‘smart management’ of assets and our team works with Defence clients to design and implement integrated solutions.

How We Help
Canopy Manage in Defence
Defence already uses IoT solutions for tasks such as monitoring vehicle engine wear, and is always introducing “smart base” tools. The use of IoT solutions leaves vulnerabilities for hackers to exploit, as an example, an adversary might attack monitoring systems to make it appear as though a fuel tanker’s tyres have gone flat, thereby taking the vehicle out of commission.

The use of IoT solutions in the military also leave it vulnerable to having their building systems and physical facilities compromised. For example, an attacker could gain access to the network through a weakly protected IoT device and could even move onto more critically sensitive IT assets if the point of entry is not segmented from the rest of the network.

Canopy Manage provides a single point of view for all IoT assets for a detailed real-time overview of location, assignment, health and performance of assets to ensure assets will behave as needed and with accuracy during critical and time-sensitive activities.

Asset Discovery
Automatically Discover Assets
Canopy Manage provides the ability to discover Defence IoT assets or manage through manual upload, creating a metadata object that can then be managed through its lifecycle through a traditional asset management process without the manual reliance on defence personnel to undertake mundane task like scheduling of proactive maintenance.

By reducing the manual handling of locating, adding and managing assets; Canopy Manage can ensure all assets are accurately accounted for all at times, when the asset is in use and when it is not.

Lifecycle End-to-end
Enchancing performance, uptime and predictability
Across all asset-intensive industries, including defence, are under increasing pressure to do more with less, enhance user experience, improve asset uptime, and advance performance predictability. Critical to performing well in this environment is having access to the right information at the right time.

Across all asset-intensive industries, including power and utilities, companies are under increasing pressure to do more with less, enhance customer service, improve asset uptime, and advance performance predictability. Critical to performing well in this environment is having access to the right information at the right time. However, power and utilities companies historically have been frustrated by limited knowledge of an all-important component of their business: their assets.

Lack of information also prevents defence from establishing a forward-looking view, making it difficult to predict when assets may fail and from adopting a risk-based approached to investment. This, in turn, creates an environment in which reactive maintenance—which affects time-critical activities and is costly and disruptive—is the norm, and scheduled work cannot be completed as planned. Today, Governments are increasingly realising that a coordinated approach is needed to deliver the required change in asset performance and efficiency. Improved strategic planning should enable organisations to extract maximum value from their assets and build resilience to the potential impact of issues from threats.
